Louis Vuitton Tambour Horizon Earphones review
When Apple released its bright white ear pods, the world laughed. Then it went out and bought them in droves.
Now the wireless earphone market is absolutely huge, and – because Apple’s buds have become a bit of a fashion statement themselves – has attracted the jealous gaze of high-end fashion brands.
Enter Louis Vuitton, who has just pulled the wraps of a new pair of wireless earbuds. These buds feature the iconic LV logo and the iconic LV monogram in one of three styles. But these buds recently made headlines when they were announced last month, due to another factor: the cost.
Yes, these Louis Vuitton headphones cost a cool US$1,000.
Which gets even more interesting when you look under the hood. Beneath the logo lies a pair of re-skinned Master and Dynamic MW07 earbuds. The good news, they sound stunning. The bad, they are about a third the cost of the LV pair.
But LV has previously said that they make the perfect accompaniment to the brand’s Tambour smartwatch.
Now, the MW07 earbuds are pretty good themselves. They are comfortable, built to last and punchy in the audio department. They look nice too – not LV nice but still nice – and are built to last.
Of course, all of that is a little bit beside the point. If you want a pair of Master and Dynamic buds, you’d buy a pair. But if you want to walk around listening to music with the Louis Vuitton logo visible out of each ear, you’ll buy a pair of these.
In many ways it’s impossible to review these buds on technical specs alone. Much in the same way that no one really needs to wear a watch these days because their phone tells the time, these earbuds exist not just to send music from your phone to your ear canals. They exist to make a statement.
And if you want to send that particular statement while you walk down the street listening to the Esquire podcast. Then these are absolutely the earbuds for you.
