Did you lose a ton of Instagram followers? Here's why
Did you notice a drop in your Instagram follower count? Well, you're not the only one.
Instagram is currently looking into an issue that’s causing some of its most popular accounts to appear to lose millions of followers.
“We’re aware of an issue that is causing a change in account follower numbers for some people right now,” Instagram wrote on Twitter. “We’re working to resolve this as quickly as possible.”

Update: we’re expecting to have this issue resolved by 9 a.m. PST tomorrow. We understand this is frustrating, and our team is hard at work to get things back to normal.— Instagram (@instagram) February 13, 2019
At some point yesterday, Instagram users woke up to considerably fewer followers than the day before. This left many users wondering if it was just another one of the popular social media site's regularly scheduled purges.
This writer in question lost 45 followers, not that much of a difference considering my relatively small Instagram follower base. But popular users like Kylie Jenner and Selena Gomez lost roughly 2.5 million followers each, while Barack Obama lost 450,000.
Rumour on social media is that Instagram is currently working to reinstate those lost follower numbers. But we're not holding our breath for that to happen.
