Roger Dubuis doubles-down on partnerships at SIHH 2019
Roger Dubuis has again brought the speed to the world’s most highly-vaunted watch exhibition. The brand unveiled a new range of watches with help from brand partner Lamborghini, as well as a very special one-off piece.
First up was the Huracan collection. As you might expect, this watch is unashamedly inspired by the supercar line, with many structural and design elements lifted straight from the road.
For example, Bridges on the skeleton ape the front grilles of a Huracan, while elements from the dashboard can be seen on the dial (such as the indices around the bezel). Interestingly, the 45-millimeter watch features a balance escapement that sits slightly off-kilter (at 12-degrees). According to watch boffs, that make the movement run that little bit more smoothly.
After that Roger Dubuis unveiled the wraps off the special Excaliber One-Off. The watch takes inspiration from a Lamborghini Squadra Corse – the racing side of the car marquis – vehicle that was custom-made for a very particular client (and recently became the most expensive car Lamborghini has ever produced).
As the name suggests, there is only one of these watches in existence. Not only does it take design inspiration from the carbon/aluminium frame of the supercar, but also makes use of the same neon-orange highlights.
More interestingly is the mechanical switch (which can be seen at the six o’clock position) that swaps between ‘winding’ mode and ‘setting’ mode (depending on what you are doing with the crown).
The price of this one off piece? A cool US$1 million dollars.
