Taron Edgerton channels Elton John in new Rocketman trailer
Long before he was given the title of "Sir," Elton John spent his formative years studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
When he was just 11 years old, he won a junior scholarship to the school after stunning his teachers with a flawless performance of a piece by Handel that he'd just heard for the first time. While getting a classical training in music, John began to form his identity that would soon make him one of the most successful and beloved singer-songwriters of all time. It was there that he began to express himself on stage through music and his now-iconic costumes and presence.
An upcoming new biopic begins with John's early years at the Royal Academy of Music, where the young artist is just beginning to discover himself. It stars Welsh actor Taron Egerton, who dons John's iconic looks—the big sunglasses, the lavish costumes.
The first trailer for Rocketman—which is due out next summer—opens with a voiceover from Richard Madden, who plays John’s manager and partner John Reid. “There are moments in a rock star’s life that define who he is," he says. "Where there was darkness there is now you, and it’s going to be a wild ride."
Described as an "epic musical fantasy," Rocketman looks like a wild ride, indeed, complete with dance numbers and Egerton doing his own singing.
