Watch first trailer for Stan & Ollie
Steve Coogan and John C Reilly's biopic of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Stan & Ollie, has its first trailer, and it's a lot more brutal and sad than we've been expecting.
It'll follow Laurel and Hardy on their 1953 tour of Britain, long after their star had waned in Hollywood, and focuses on the long-held resentments which threatened to force the pair apart before the tour spurred a late-period revival.
In brief - Stan: "You're just a lazy ass who got lucky 'cause you met me." Ollie: "Lucky? To spend my life with a man who hides behind his typewriter?"
The first image of the pair in costume and Coogan's gift for mimicry did suggest that it'd be a cut above your average biopic, and Coogan's take on Laurel's slightly creaky and cultivated Ulverston-via-California accent is definitely spot on, as are the reconstructions of classic Laurel and Hardy routines the pair performed on theatre stages around the UK.
Reilly looks and sounds good too, though the less said about his enormous prosthetic neck the better. Stan & Ollie is out on 11 January.
