An ode to Jay-Z's designer wardrobe in 'Apesh*t'
The Internet is in meltdown. Beyoncé and Jay-Z, now known as The Carters, released their new single 'Apesh*t' to mass hysteria. Tweets! Instaposts! Dying! RIP ME! etc., etc.
But aside from the very arty shots of Bey and Jay cursing in the Louvre (of all places!), we're also going apesh*t for Jay-Z's on-screen wardrobe.
As a man long in the warm embrace of designer brands, the 48-year-old proved that money really ain't a thang with a series of luxury looks. And we want every single one of them.
The Rapper-At-A-Funeral Look
All-black is a stylish but ultimately safe look. So Jay-Z upgraded the pallbearer vibes with a jacquard two-piece and that ubiquitous emblem of hip-hop style: the gold chain. Just don't expect it to fly at an actual funeral.
The Rapper-At-A-Wedding Look
Sorry Solange: you didn't really think Jay would let you dominate the hip-hop all-white wedding thing after that palaver in the lift, did you? The Jiggaman one-upped the classic wedding suit (and every wedding that's probably ever happened) with a dressed down two-piece and again, that big garish chain in sickness and in health.
The Rapper-In-An-Unashamedly-Gucci-Suit Look
Logomania is back in high fashion, while in rap it simply never went away. And thanks to Jay-Z's heavily branded Gucci suit, it's never looked better.
The Rapper-At-An-Underwater-Private-Dinner Look
We can only assume that the blue lights are a stab at 'HIGH CULTURAL MUSIC VIDEO SYMBOLISM,' but they also distort what would be a fantastic suit: double-breasted, with contrast peak lapels and another gold chain. Spot a pattern?
The Rapper-At-A-Soul-Train-Party Look
Pastels are in. So are lyrics about achieving ludicrous financial success. Jay-Z, as Jay-Z often does, has flexed both, enlisting an on-trend mint green that almost steals Our Lady Beyoncé's thunder. Note we said almost.
