Tod's just launched a disruptive new sneaker
Last night, Italian label Tod's announced the launch of its new footwear project, No_Code.
The setting was a party at Garage Italia Customs the Milanese bespoke automobile business set up last year by Lapo Elkann, style legend and scion of the Agnelli clan.
It’s a tie-up that fits: Tod's is, after all, the company that gave the world the driving shoe, and Lapo Elkann is a tastemaker and car nut par excellence. His Garage is a polished creative hub for petrolheads with means, but it also houses a chic bar, a roof terrace, and a restaurant by multi-Michelin starred chef Carlo Cracco.
The No_Code sneaker, of which we got only a fleeting glimpse last night, speaks to an eternal design language that’s independent of seasonal fashion considerations, and a sleek aesthetic antithetical to the current runway predilection for fugly footwear. The out-of-the box thinking doesn’t stop here however.
Launching in July in Tod's stores worldwide, it is a precursor of a broader capsule project created directly in collaboration with Elkann and his design team. It launches in the fall; watch this space.
