John Mayer should do all his music videos on zero budget
John Mayer—AKA "John Mayor," AKA "Client 1026"—just released the music video for his latest song, "New Light," and it's nothing short of incredible.
In less than four minutes, Mayer hits New York City, heads to a farm, soars through a sky while the sun sets, hangs out in the kitchen of a cheap apartment, visits Paris, hits the ski slopes, chills with some Zebras, and catches a fireworks show—all the while sporting what to you looks like pajamas, but to fashionheads looks like grail-worthy hoody from Japanese brand Kaptial.
The video is comically brilliant, and if you're following Mayer on Instagram this shouldn't be a surprise to you. Honestly, if you've followed Mayer's career, it shouldn't be a surprise to you, either. He's always fancied himself a comedian, whether it's with on-stage monologues or important cultural exchanges with Kanye West. The Tim & Eric-ness of the "New Light" video was a long time coming.
Anyway, you didn't come here to read any more words. You came here to watch a music video, so if you've already done that, here are a few of my favourite scenes from the "New Light" video.
The title card.
The 'deal with it'.
The fireworks jump.
And finally, the best scene: the kitchen.
