Bottega Veneta Spring/Summer 2018 [Gallery]
Bottega Veneta unveiled its spring/summer 2018 line at the Palazzo Archinto in Milan on Friday. The new collection is all about contrasts, hence the new venue. "It's very playful," said creative director Tomas Maier, "it reflects the mood of the collection".
Maier chose to keep things casual this season. "There's no tailoring," says Maier "it's all very sportswear and soft, but nothing is designed for a workout."
Outerwear includes oversized pieces like trench and raincoats, as well as lightweight blouson jackets. Larger top pieces are balanced by tapered pants and shoes that, "makes for a very precise silhouette," according to Maier.
Colours are a mix of aqua, dahlia and camomile, as well as materials such as antique satin, cotton pique, and suede.
Accessory-wise, personalization is key. In the men's range, large weekender bags and totes have a bold but clean colour-block, with a band for embossed shadow letters or stitched versions of the owner's initials.
Bags are soft and roomy, "You can do everything with them," says Maier. "Go to work, to the gym. This is your carry-on for the plane next to your roller".
