Anthony Joshua to make MMA cross-over?
Now that the circus of McGregor-Mayweather fight has passed, many are curious to where exactly does it leave the line between the sports of boxing and MMA. While there are no certainties one influential voice, Anthony Joshua - the world heavy-weight champion - waded into the conversation, when he was asked if he would be interested in stepping inside the octagon.
“I like fighting, I’d do whatever, and I’d probably get beaten,” the British boxer told Sky Sports.
Admitting to the difficulty of mixed-martial arts, Joshua said that he’d fight under one condition, "The only thing that they can’t do is submissions, but they can kick, elbow, bite – whatever they want. Just no submissions."
Yet to be beaten inside the ring; the 6ft 6in, 250-pound WBA and IBF champion, is due to return to the ring later this year, although an opponent, date and venue are yet to be announced.
After the unexpectedly good spectacle of McGregor-Mayweather - and with hundreds of millions flowing in - it’s no doubt any fighter would consider cashing in on an opportunity.
But will we see Joshua in an octagon any time soon? Maybe bring Chuck Liddell back from retirement?
