Big Ben is set to go on silent
It seems that everyone needs a break every now and then. Even Big Ben.
Having provided a consistent hourly bong to Londoners for the last 157 years, it seems that Big Ben is finally going to be taking a much needed sabbatical.
Reports coming from the BBC have informed us that restorations set to be done on both the clock and the tower surrounding it will mean that the Great Bell's familiar chimes won't be heard again until 2021.
Being disconnected in order for the essential maintenance to take place, Ben will only be returning briefly for duty at significant events such as Remembrance Sunday and New Year's Eve. Aside from these special occasions, the clock tower will remain eerily silent to ensure that this multi-million pound refurbishment goes off without a hitch.
The 2nd most Instagrammed landmark in the world, the last time that Big Ben went silent was as a result of a similar renovation project back in 2007. Here's hoping that the time off allows Ben to come back looking ten years younger and ringing twice as loud.
