PSG set to pay record fee for Neymar Jr.
Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior is on the verge of becoming the world's most expensive footballer... and by quite some margin.
Know the world over as Neymar Jr., the 25-year-old Brazilian captain is all set to seal a world record-breaking deal to leave his current employers Barcelona FC, and joint French powerhouse Paris Saint German (PSG).
The deal is worth an estimated EUR 222 million, with PSG opting to trigger a release clause built into Neymar's contract with Barcelona. However, that is not all of the finances involved. In addition to that fee, PSG will be committing to an extra EUR 219 million in wages for the player; as well as bonuses that include a sum of EUR 40 million to Neymar’s agent, his father.
Rumours spread wild when Earlier today Neymar was excused from training with his Barcelona teammates by his coach, and was later spotted at the training camp spending 30-minutes presumably saying farewell to his teammates before heading out.
Neymar who joined Barcelona in 2013, formed a formidable attacking partnership with fellow South Americans Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, who were affectionately refered to as ‘MSN’. He projected move to Paris will see him reunite with Brazilian international colleagues Dani Alves, and Thiago Silva.
Once finalised, the deal will see Neymar become the most expensive signing of all time; breaking the record previously set last year by Paul Pogba, when Manchester United paid EUR 108 million to lure him from Juventus.
The only question now is, will a striker EUR 220 million buy you instant success?
