Best Dressed 2017 - Lucas Alves
The late Hardy Amies said it best when he declared: “A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them.” Beyond this guiding principle, the formula for a stylish man is harder to pinpoint. So for 2017's selection of the Esquire's Best Dressed Men in the Gulf, we’ve looked at men who wear their clothes with a sense of individuality, confidence and consideration.
Effortless Latin style and classic, simple items he describes as “classic and comfortable”, but which we would describe as easy-wear chic, embody his laid-back look. “I like wearing brands that bring you comfort with a smart edge, like Emporio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and COS.” He counts the legendary Janis Joplin as one of his style inspirations — an unusual choice but one that is in keeping with his authentic look.
Often dressed in a white T-shirt and, even in this heat, his favourite leather jacket, Alves says he is making a conscious effort to dress down and think more of comfort in the summer, and then focus on a smarter sartorial look in the cooler months. However we suspect he is the embodiment of that unavoidable male model truth we are all secretly jealous of — which is that they look good in anything.
An aspiring actor and self-proclaimed Dubai lover, he is quick to credit the city for his modelling success since making it his home two years ago. “The location makes it easy to take on jobs in Europe and Asia,” he explains of his growing reputation.
