The Samsung Galaxy S8, is it worth the hype?
One of the most anticipated smartphone releases for all us tech geeks is Samsung’s flagship smartphones the Galaxy S8 and S8+. It gives the community the chance to camp out, as we like to do on special occasions such as smartphone releases and sci-fi movie premiers. S8 comes in midnight black, orchid grey, coral blue, arctic silver and maple gold with a 5.8 and 6.2 inch quad-HD infinity display respectively. 64GB storage (you can expand up to 256GB with a simple memory card), wireless fast charging battery, a 12 megapixels camera, fingerprint scanner and the Jeeves like Samsung Bixby personal assistant. These are only some of the features you'll find on this marvel of technology which is sure to have developers losing sleep at the Apple campus in California.
The S8’s 5.8-inch screen is larger than the iPhone 7’s 4.7-inch, also gives you much sharper image quality, display 570 pixels per inch, vs. iPhone7 326 pixels per inch. May not mean a lot now but just wait till you view some VR content on the device. The app DeX is something that will excite suit wearing business types, it will transform the S8 into an Android-running desktop computer by simply plugging it into a dock, and Windows 10 will also be available through a virtual desktop interface. Word on the street is Samsung already have plans to develop a similar software compatible with Apple devices.
We suspect Samsung would rather be hoping to re-establish its presence as the forerunner in smartphones and forget once and for all the saga of the Galaxy Note 7, infamous device that sat peacefully by your bedside one minute and turned into a fireball the next. Financially it burned a hole in the shareholders pocket (literally) costing Dhs19.5 billion to recall (according to USA today). Sales figures should let us know if the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will restore former glory for the South Korean tech giant, if it doesn't it may simply disappear into the abyss like the Swedish company that was famous for it's mobile phones once upon a time.
