Creepy new App lets you take selfies with dead friends
If you wanted further proof that life in 2017 is just one long episode of Black Mirror, look no further than new South Korean app 'With Me' which allows you to take photographs with dead people - more or less the exact plot of season 2 episode 'Be Right Back'.
The software uses artificial intelligence to embed a 3D avatar of the deceased person which you can take photographs with and talk to, though somewhat unsurprisingly they won't talk back.
Sadly, it only works if people sign up for the app before they die and visit a scanning booth to measure their face in order to create a realistic computer graphic. No bringing back Tupac for a sweet Facebook profile pic then.
The digital rendering is then loaded onto the app as a avatar who loved ones can pose for photos with using augmented reality technology similar to that of Pokémon GO.
Rather touchingly the app was designed by Eun Jin Lim to help people cope with grief after her experience, "I had my grandmother before and she passed away a few years ago but I really, really regret that she passed away and we didn't have any pictures together."
Sweet or a little creepy? A little of both, like any selfie these days.
