Why you should watch the historic UFC 205
This Saturday (Nov 12) will see one of the most significant events in UFC history. After seemingly endless legal battles and legistlation amendments, New York's hallowed Madison Square Garden will host an MMA event, and what a debut it’s going to be. With three title fights on the card and the main event involving the brash Irish superstar Conor McGregor, it’s really something that you shouldn't be missing. Here's why:
Battle of the Belts
For the second time in UFC history, three title fights will all take place on the same fight card. The first of which is the women’s Straw-weight belt where Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend for the fifth time against the striking heavy and versatile Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Switching to the men's division, Welterweight champ Tyron ‘The Chosen One’ Woodley takes on challenger Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, after defeating a legend of the sport Robbie Lawler to win the title last time out. All eyes will be on Woodley to prove that his first-round KO was no fluke, but he’s going to have to do it against a skillful and vicious karate specialist. Top of the card sees Conor McGregor, the brash posterboy of UFC, attempting to take the Lightweight title from current champ Eddie Alvarez, in what promises to be a fast, violent and gritty showpiece.
The McGregor show
Any fight card that Conor takes, is always going to be the bigger than the last. Breaking Pay-Per-View records almost every time he steps in the octagon, it would be safe to say 205 is going to be another noteworthy tale in the history books. As the current featherweight champion, for the first time in UFC history ‘The Notorious’ has a chance to hold two title belts in two different weight divisions, however to do so will have to take down wrestling specialist, Eddie Alvarez. We’re thinking it too, some pretty next level stuff.
New York City is ready
We’ve said it a lot, but for the first time ever, the UFC will head to Madison Square Garden. MSG is an arena strictly intended for legends, which if you look back, has held only the best in their crafts. After constant disagreement in the past, a bill was recently signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo making Mixed Martial Arts legal in NY, ending the states 20 year ban and allowing UFC 205 to be held at what is arguably the most iconic arena in the US.
