Meet the MB Night Stars
Nightlife lovers had their pictures taken outside the fashionable club by a professional photographer in the sleek company of a of a Mercedes-Benz dream car.
The series is running every weekend throughout April. Mercedes-Benz Esquire, and Hugo Boss are selecting one Night Star of the Week. An overall winner from the series will also feature in this year’s Esquire Best Dressed list, out on June 1st.
You can join the conversation on social media using hashtag #MBNightStars, but first read on to find out more about the winner of week four, Jonathan Baptiste Ludovic. Here, the 37-year-old French aeronautics CEO gives us his style secrets:
What’s your occupation?
I’ve been CEO of ELISA Aeronautics since 2012. My team and I design electro-luminescent conversion systems for civil and military aviation.
What's your favourite wardrobe item and why?
My watches. A high-end timepiece is timeless, whereas often the price at which you buy a wardrobe item is not representative of its value because it rarely reflects its life time. For example, a fashionable suit can become has-been a few months later.
How would you describe your style?
I like Friday wear. With the advent of casualwear, promoted especially in the start-up world of Silicon Valley, dressing elegantly in business today can be misunderstood in some environments.
How does your personality reflect your style?
It depends on circumstances. At work, it is important to keep the suit-and-tie image that people expect from a leader. On weekends it is important to keep it fun. I like comfortable “sports chic” clothing, whether to go buggy racing in the desert or facilitate a meeting with locals.
What's the best style advice you can give our readers?
My grandmother said: Forget black and dark blue together. And also, not more than three different colours. More generally, if fashion shouldn’t be taken too seriously, it's even truer for accessories. If you take too much time to decide on the colour of your belt (or worse, your socks) you have gone too far.
Does your style change according to the seasons?
In the desert, the most useful guard against sand is the keffiyeh. And in a Dubai or Abu Dhabi summer I stay away from shirts when possible.
What three wardrobe items can you not live without?
My watch, an MB&F HM5, my Sacoor Brothers apparel and my Nike Air Jordans that live in my sports bag.
Who's your style icon?
Will Smith. He has a similar physique to mine and he has the opportunity to work with many stylists. I have only to watch his movies to get inspired.
