Game of Thrones star breaks fridge carrying world record
Fridges. An inventive and sensible device for storing and keeping your perishable goods cool (and occasionally dispense ice), or a overly heavy kitchen object whose main purpose is to test just how strong Northern Europeans are? This, of course, is a trick question. Both are correct.
Recently, in the Italian version of the Guinness World Records TV show, everyone’s favourite strong man Thor Bjornsson – better known as ‘The Mountain’ in HBO’s Game of Thrones – broke the world record for carrying fridges. Yup, you read that right. Fridges. Plural.
In the video below, the 6’9″, 175kg Bjornsson competes against world class strongman Lithuania’s Zydrunas Savickas in carrying two huge fridges—complete with ice machine slots— weighing 450kg, over a 20-metre distance. The quickest over the distance has the right to proudly claim the much-sought-after Guinness World Record for the 20-Metre Fridge Carrying. (OK, fine. We’d never heard of it before either.)
