The bow-tie boys
Based in both Dubai and London, these three brothers have been building their brand, Velsvoir since 2012 and it is fast becoming one of the most exciting menswear brands to have come from the region. Zubair, 29, Talha, 27 and Zak Timol, 25, first inadvertently burst onto scene after struggling to find dapper accessories in existing stores, so decided to design their own. Their signature boxy bowties, all handmade in London, were soon sought-after by men on both sides of the world and Velsvoir was quickly born. “Velsvoir is offering its own voice and interpretation on menswear through the introduction of a series of accessories that challenge the status quo,” explains Talha, who, as Managing Director, runs the finance, operations and logistics of the brand. “By using less traditional fabrics and being more daring to experiment, we’re redefining how people view and style traditional accessories.” Their contemporary aesthetic, which has now started to include blazers and waistcoats on top of their accessories, is down to Zak’s playful eye. “As the Creative Director of the brand I oversee the collection and all aspects of design,” he explains. “Music is my main influence then designing. The type of music can range dependent on what I’m trying to create, varying from chillwave to hip-hop, with a spot of Nancy Ajram.” The boys debuted their label at London Collections: Men last season and are set to present their A/W16 collection in the British capital again come January. “As one of the few UAE-based brands, we’ve been able to inject a different perspective on formal dressing,” adds Zubair, who looks after strategy, styling and brand awareness. We’re hopefully giving gents the confidence to experiment with their accessories outside of a formal occasion.” www.velsvoir.com
