- Each two years the World Beard and Moustache Championships are held in a city around the world
- The contest sees contestants battle it out in three main categories: moustache, partial beard and full beard
- The competition attracts some of the wildest facial hair imaginable
- Recently, they added a Ladies competition with categories in both artificial beards and moustaches
Hundreds of hair men (and some women) from around the world were in Antwerp in Belgium last night, for the 2019 World Beard and Moustache Championships.
The annual event – which sees some of the world’s wackiest facial hair – is centered on three main competitions, the moustache, partial beard and full beard.
The three-day championships also have a ladies’ competition, with categories for the most realistic and creative expressions of beards and moustaches.
The event has been going strong since 2001, and is held in a different location around the world each year. Previously, it has been held in the likes of Brighton England and Stuttgart Germany.
We’ve picked out a few of the best beards from the 2019 Championships:
Beards have gone through a massive resurgence over the last few years, and recently it became official – women find men with beards more attractive.
This comes from a study by the Journal of Evolutionary Biology that asked 8,500 women to rate men with and without beards, highlighting which they would most like to go out with. Sadly for men without beards, the study reported that every single woman asked (every SINGLE one of them) preferred men with facial hair.
Unfortunately for some of the bigger beards at the World Beard and Moustache Championships, it’s heavy stubble that received the highest ratings for general attractiveness. Followed by full beards and light stubble.
