Indie Lounge opens in DIFC
Occupying the upper floor of DIFC’s recently renovated Argentinian restaurant, Gaucho, Indie Lounge is the latest night spot to be added to the non-stop juggernaut of Dubai’s evening scene.
But despite the multiple bar-and-lounge options in Dubai’s financial district, the Beirut-born lounge concept promises to offer punters something a bit different from the area’s high-end restaurants.
The warm, ‘speakeasy’ space seems ideal for a chilled-out, younger crowd to go for a post-work drink, but the main difference is the music. Rather than the same old Top 20 hits on repeat, or sets from so-called DJs with their heads buried in their phones, Indie Lounge states that it is committed to playing underground, indie music.
The brain child of the Add-Mind group, (who recently brought the British club, Toy Room, to Dubai), Indie Lounge is looking to bring independent music to a slick-looking venue rather than the normal dive bars where it traditionally lives.
Following its successful start in Lebanon, Indie Lounge is the result of a collaboration with the makers of the famous Iris brand – which already has opened Iris Dubai, Iris Yas Island and White Dubai.
The venue takes its passion for mixology seriously, having set up three different bars; a sake bar, cocktail bar and fresh fruit bar. The staff also seem a dab hand at inventing their own impromptu mixes. Of course, it also helps that there is a food menu serving up an uncomplicated selection of tapas and foods “to drink with”.
Indie is open from Saturday to Thursday from 17:00 – 02:00 with band nights every Wednesday.
